Gosford: Happening and excited

"Gosford Etchells fleet"

The Gosford Etchells Fleet has had a great start to the season. We are getting nine boats out racing every week.

We still have one spare spot on our hard stand which we are hoping to fill very soon. There are lots of potential Etchells sailors around the club with juniors growing up and lots of yacht sailors watching the fleet race each week so we intend running an Etchells Try Sail Day in the near future.

The fleet has experienced a variety of conditions so far this season with some good nor-easterlies, cold southerlies and puffy sou-easterlies, not to mention some good racing.

With a compressed season and different boats taking line honours each week it has been a hard task for our handicapper sorting out the results.

We have had three rounds of our Club Championships. Running results are 1. AUS548 - Battery Allsorts (Neil McDonald), 2. AUS218 - GreenBack (Luke Birch), 3. AUS970 - Pointless (John McDougall). There have also been a couple of guest sailors racing around with our fleet; David Ritchard and Tom Slingsby have been filling in the odd spots when needed.

The fleet is looking forward to the up-coming regattas. We have several boats travelling to the nationals at LMYC, States at RSYS and next August, The Don AUS1291, is packing up and heading over to Ireland for the World Championship. Thanks again for the support and great racing at last year's states at Gosford.

I would like to thank Greg Eddy for his past commitment as the Gosford Fleet Captain. A six year stint is a good effort and I hope I can fill his shoes.

The Gosford Fleet is happening and is excited about what the rest of the sailing season will bring.

Good luck to all fleets and fair sailing for the rest of the season and up-coming regattas.
