Mooloolaba: forward moving changes and State Championship in the sunshine

1 September 2009 Trevor Martin

Wharf Tavern Etchells Queensland State Championship

"Wharf Tavern Etchells Queensland State Championship"

The Wharf Tavern Etchells Queensland State Championship well and truly coming closer at a great rate of knots and we are very lucky The Wharf Tavern has stepped on board as our major sponsor. We know what a good time they will put on for us. The Notice of Race is available from the event website

The Championship will be over two days with three races a day. The boats will be moored at the Wharf again and Newport apartments have given the Etchells sailors great discounts on their rooms. Make sure you mention Etchells Stages when booking.

At the Etchells AGM in Melbourne it was voted to make the Australian Winter Championship an official class C event which means it will have full accreditation like all our other major events. The reason it was never an official class C event was that rules states that no class C event can be run out of the same location year after year like we do at Mooloolaba, unless it is voted by the fleet captains and officials for the exception .

Now for event better news. It has been decided that we should change the name of the Australian Winter Championships to reflect the interest of overseas competitors in the championship. From now on it will be known as The Australasian Etchells Winter Championship which will be a big bonus for our sponsors, Mooloolaba business and tourism, and all the sailors who will be competing in a truly international event.

Here's to a great new season and looking forward to meeting up with all our old friends

See you on the water
Trevor Martin
Mooloolaba Fleet Captain
