The Australasian Winter Etchells Championship, held over the June long weekend in the Pacific Ocean off Mooloolaba, Queensland, was won in fine style by skipper Jeanne-Claude Strong and crew on AUS 868 Yandoo XX. Strong becomes the first lady skipper to win a major Etchells regatta.

Yandoo XX used a complete set of sails made by Peter McNeill at his Doyle Sails Lake Macquarie loft. Their sail inventory included a MW2-RH mainsail, MCH and ML7+ jibs, together with FR and FRL spinnakers.

The highly competitive fleet of 42 Etchells experienced a full range of conditions for the three-day regatta. A light to moderate Westerly and flattish seas greeted the fleet on the first day, and then an 18-25 knot Southerly with big seas for the last two days.

The 1999 Etchells world champion, Cameron Miles, who was also sporting a complete set of Doyle Sails, finished in second place. Hong Kong's Mark Thornburrow and his crew, which included dual Olympic gold medallist, Malcolm Page, had a great last day to move up in to third place and they used some Doyle Sails as well. In fact, six out of the top ten overall were using mainly Doyle Sails.

Congratulations to the crew of Yandoo XX - Jeanne-Claude, Neville and Tianna Wittey together with Marcus Burke. Their win comes on the back of taking out the RSYS 'Milson Silver Goblets' regatta earlier this year.
