With the season well and truly underway and the conclusion of the NSW State Championships, things are really hotting up! On the Palm Beach course, 53 teams made for a very intense and hard fought regatta, which is just a taste of what is to come.

The entry list was a frightening thing, but once again confirmed that the Etchells is well and truly the only boat to sail, if you want to race against the best around. Looking through the names, there were champions from every possible corner of the sport, coming together to race in the fairest contest of sailing ability available. I was very pleased to see a lot of new faces and a solid contingent of younger sailors, who are putting together some very serious campaigns in the Class.

My thanks and congratulation to all those folk that contributed towards the event, especially the sponsors. My congratulations go to GT, Mothy and Ben, for a brilliant series, as they were truly untouchable.

The local club scene is also going strongly, with lots of attendance for weekend, twilight and World Championship selection racing. There is no doubt that this coming Worlds in Sydney has created a lot of excitement amongst all the Australian fleets, but there is also a feeling that if a Worlds spot is not available, then just being involved is a buzz in itself. This is evidenced by the anticipated 85 boats that look to be lining up for the Nationals.

A fantastically strong administration team, who have been working overtime as these events get closer, further strengthens our Class. The payments system has made the task of reconciling member status very easy, so please ensure that all the Class protocol is adhered to. This is one of the elements that make the Etchells so strong. Everybody is on an even footing, just like the boats and sails.

The good news from our builder is that we have now built, or have on order, five new boats, which is a very exciting result after all the hard work putting the new tooling together. In addition to new boats, Phil Smidmore has a whole range of Etchells specific gear, which can be sourced by simply giving him a call.

My sincere thanks go to the great team that keeps this all together and finally if I don't see you beforehand, have a safe and Merry Xmas.

See you on the wate...
