Kylie Wilson,

It is now only two months out to the NSW State Championship at Pittwater and the entries have stated to roll in.

Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club will conduct both the Etchells NSW State and National championships in the lead up to the World Championship in Sydney in 2012.

The NSW State Championship will be held 17 to 20 November 2011 and the National Championship from 11 to 14 February 2012.

Racing in the State Championship will be over three days on the open water course area of Palm Beach circle. The Notice of Race and Online Entry is available from the event website (below).

The on-water team will be led by Stephen Merrington, Ted Anderson and Mitch Watkins. On the Protest Committee, International Juror Steven Hatch will take the chair.

The organising committee has set a target of 50-plus boats for the State titles. The early entry numbers are already indicating this target will be reached with boats coming from West Australia, South Australia and Victoria along with a strong NSW contingent.

World Champion in 2010, John Bertrand, has signaled he will compete in the NSW State Championship. His boat will then stay at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club while Bertrand and his team of Andrew Palfrey and Tom Slingsby travel in for open water training prior to the National and World Championship.

The first overseas entry has come from Hong Kong's Mark Thornburrow. The 20-year class veteran will have racing with him his team of the last two years - Martin Mok, Simon Cooke and Gray Gibson.

Other international entries are expected from Britain, New Zealand and USA.

The Pittwater Fleet are offering all competitors an attractive option of boat storage at Pittwater between the State and National titles at a cost of $500 and the opportunity to be involved in some coaching days.
