Pittwater Etchells is looking forward to a busy season in 2011-12, hosting the NSW States in November, followed by the National Championships in February. The NOR should be posted on the Etchells website and also the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club website, by mid-July.

Both events will be sailed on the Palm Beach Circle, renowned as one of the finest sailing areas in the world. We will organise tow boats for both to and from the course.

We expect that some teams will want to store their boats at RPAYC between the States and Nationals. The Club is resurfacing the boat storage area and installing security gates. Boats will be able to be stored with masts up in the new area, which is conveniently close to the three cranes. There will be specially reduced storage rates for those who compete in both events. We hope that some of those teams will join in with our Club racing, as well.

The Nationals will effectively be the pre-worlds for the Sydney World Championships. The Palm Beach Circle has very similar conditions and wave motion to the World Championship course, so it will be a good training ground for the Worlds.

The Sydney Worlds commence four days after the end of the Nationals. You will be able to have your boat weighed and measured at RPAYC in advance for the Sydney Worlds.

There is no need to de-mast between the two events. You can simply sail from RPAYC to Sydney in about 3 hours or alternatively, you can organise for a very fast 40-minute tow between Clubs. I have been in a four-boat tow behind a Mustang at 7am, which took 35 minutes from Club to Club, so it can be done. A more conventional tow will take much longer.

With regards to accommodation, there are places to be found on the Internet, in Newport, Mona Vale and also Avalon. We will organise a list to be placed on the website soon. Better get in quick though as it is limited.

For more information you can email the Fleet Officers through the Pittwater Fleet website.
