Kylie Wilson,

Over the next little while, the Gold Coast Fleet have two regattas that may be of interest of Southerners sick of their colder months.

The first is our Commodore's Cup, which has an Etchells Division. This one attracts a lot of visitors from the Brisbane Fleet and we would love to have some of the other fleets around the country come and join us. It will be held over the weekend of May 14 and 15, 2011.

The Commodore's Cup is sailed offshore and is therefore a great work-up for the Musto Etchells Australasian Winter Championship. We can store the boats for those wanting to keep their Etchells up here for Mooloolaba.

The second regatta is our Queensland State titles, which are being held on the Gold Coast this year, at the end of October. We have a tentative date of October 21 to 23, inclusive. Now this coincides with the V8 Supercars event, which has them racing on the old Indy Car street circuit. There is plenty of action in town during this week. If a sailing day gets abandoned through bad weather, as it did one year, then there is plenty to do towards a hangover.
