President's Report

29 August 2016 David Ritchard

David Ritchard

"David Ritchard"

It is an honour to once again undertake the mantle of President for this Association. We have a very exciting programme and period ahead of us.

As you will see in the builder’s report, we have now completed the modifications of our hull mould, and the first boat has been delivered. Four more boats are ordered and will be delivered before Christmas. This issue has been an extremely vexed one and I would like to thank Phil Smidmore, Jake Gunther and our Australian Measurer, Denis Heywood, for their patience and perseverance through this transition.

The new season is very fast approaching and it is encouraging to see some new boat owners, along with our existing members prepping for the challenges ahead.

All States have titles scheduled, and the Australian Championship is slated for Pittwater from 12 to 15 January 2017. This event is a feature of the Sesquicentenary of the host club, The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Put it onto your calendar, and look forward to racing on the Palm Beach Circle, the site of the first Australian World Championship won by the late Frank Tolhurst.

The new templates presently being adopted by World Sailing will be employed in measurement preceding the Australian Championship. So no competitor turns up and is then disappointed in having to make some modifications to their boat, we are developing test templates for distribution to strategic areas. Fleets are encouraged to get behind this initiative to ensure all your boats comply, as I am sure they do.

I am lucky that I have a great team on the executive in David Clark, David Healey, Jill Connell and Andy Fethers. I look forward to working with them to develop and foster this great Class.

Finally, Australia has an extremely competent team heading to the upcoming Worlds in Cowes - we wish them every success.

Have a great sailing season…

David Ritchard

President
