There has been strong activity within the Brisbane fleet since Christmas, with eight boats regularly racing on Waterloo Bay, even whilst we had boats on tour competing at the Nationals and Worlds during January and February.

It has been particularly great to see three new owners join the fleet:

- James Chilman with The Boat That Rocked,

- John Warlow on Le Grande Coq and

- James Dagge, Liam Hayes and Michael Hayes with Bromance.

The Bromance boys went on to collect the encouragement award at the Winter Nationals for a persistent performance and we hope to see more from them in the near future.

Our fleet Championships held in May saw thirteen boats face the starter and we also had visitors from Southport, Mooloolaba and Melbourne fleets attending. The two-day regatta threw up some surprises, with some very strong competition between the top three boats, and the final outcome only decided on the last race with just the two points separating the podium. First place went to Gen XY, which are Matt Chew, Paul Wyatt, Ashley Deeks and Brian Donovan. In second place was This'll Make Her Scream, David Rose, Taylor Rose and Josh Torpy and in third was Le Grande Coq, which is John Warlow, Bradley Ginniven and Craig Alcock.

Team Gen XY must have benefitted from this tough competition as a warm up for the Winter Nationals, which they also went on to win in fine form. Congratulations to Matt and his crew for a great year!

Club Results for the season were:

Club Champion - Matt Chew on Gen XY

Seasons Points - Ken Waller, Al Harrison, Dan Alcock with YEP

The new season is looking very strong for the Brisbane fleet with plenty of enquiry and the regulars keen to hit the water and more than just a bit of talk about who wants to go to Italy next year. We have instigated pre and post race discussions covering tuning, gear handling and tactics, with the aim of ensuring the whole fleet has access to the knowledge and techniques used by our top guys. We have seen great improvement within the fleet as a result and plenty of personal bests have been noted.

Dave and Sue Healey have continued to maintain the fleet standard, with the club championship BBQs held without fail, many thanks Team Healey.

Noel Paterson has announced his retirement as Fleet Captain after many years in the job and we thank him for his tireless efforts and his passion ensuring the ongoing success of the Brisbane fleet.

See you on the water soon.
