What a fantastic year of sailing from the Mornington Etchells Fleet. We had three boats at the States and Nationals, being the crews skippered by Graeme Alexander, Graeme Taylor and Phil Coombs. Well done to you all.

Our fleet is strong by Australian standards, and with an excellent participation rate of around 50% for this season, it's up there with the best. The racing has been extremely close with the placings changing numerous times in every race. This also flows on to dry land, with the passionate post race discussion commencing at the dock and then continuing upstairs on the deck.

We started planning for the Labour Day 2011 Victorian State Championships in July/August last year, but were thwarted by the 'pier upgrade'. It was most disappointing to let the series go to Brighton, due to lack of Northerly wind protection and some completion dates that were nowhere near met by the Authorities.

The race management crew has done a great job over the season, with some difficult conditions at times. As a class, we do enjoy tight racing and accurate on-water course laying is the key. Thanks again guys for all your long hours on the water throughout the season.

Over Winter, a few boats are looking at a much needed maintenance program and the prospects for a couple of new boats joining the fleet next year are very positive, indeed.

As a final point, the racing is all about people. In particular, Etchells racing in is about crew versus crew and the attention the peak body pays to ensuring the one design remains tight sailing, is truly amazing. Etchells sailors are proud of their time on the water and what they can bring to the table, especially for our young juniors.

Thanks again for a great season.
