It was a Summer of domination. There simply is no other word for it.

Shane Deussen's rampage sailing Coronation Rag (AUS 936) on the Adelaide Gulf waters for 2010/11 season, was highlighted by a clean sweep of all the heats in the SA State Championship. This gave him the luxury of discarding a first when calculating the overall results. Additionally, there were wins in the two Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron Pointscore Series, along with collecting the Hawse Trophy, as our fleet 'cock of the walk'.

This was Shane's second season campaigning Coronation Rag and whilst some improvement was gained by upgrading sails, Shane is quick to give credit to his crew of Steve Dunn and Brett James for 'keeping their heads out of the boat' and making all the right tactical decisions. A couple of State heats were sailed in light, fluky conditions, which saw a number of the usual front runners buried in the pack. This meant the fight for minor placings was wide open. Best of the rest in the State Championships was Mike Bradley's, Fish Factory (AUS 951) in second place, who just held off a fast finishing Jason Ward with his, Concubine (AUS 1258).

Planning for next season's calendar is well underway, with plenty of Saturday racing in store. We anticipate fewer gaps next summer, with more Club Pointscore races scheduled than in past seasons, which will reward the regular boats that hit the water week in, week out. The Henshall Shield World Qualifying Series for the Adelaide fleet will be completed in October, in order to give our top ranked crews plenty of time to plan their trips to Sydney. The 2011/12 SA State heats will again be spread, with race days scheduled before and after both the National and World Regattas.
