A new fleet is emerging in the delightful Whitsunday Islands. AUS1288 is the first Etchells to call the Whitsunday Sailing Club home. Other sailors have been very keen to purchase an Etchells, so it is hoped that this first vessel will inspire them to follow suit.

It has taken seven years for the Etchells to gain this important toehold in the Whitsundays and now a fleet looks to have become a reality, with the assistance of Meridien Marinas and the Whitsunday Sailing Club.

Meridien Marinas are proud to be the sponsor of the Airlie Beach Race, which this year is on from August 12 to 18. The Whitsundays are the perfect place to sail an Etchells and all are invited to Race Week. The Etchells division will be sailing in Pioneer Bay over seven or eight races. A mobile crane is being arranged to assist with the lifting of boats.

Furthermore, those from the Southern States wishing to partake are able to have storage for their vessel at Mooloolaba, after the Musto Etchells Australasian Winter Championship in June, for a period of about 6 weeks. Some of this will be free of charge.

The following site has event details, accommodation, things to do etc, www.airliebeachraceweek.com.au.
